THIS STOLEN COUNTRY OF MINE by Marc Wiese has a busy November: first it will be part of the Green Zone Program at Serbia's Free Zone Film Festival (November 3-8, 2022, programme here), then the film will be theatrically released in German cinemas by Real Fiction on November 10 and then it's heading to Oslo Films from the South Festival in their Doc:South Competition (November 11-20, 2022). TRAILER FOR FRITZ BAUER'S LEGACY

We're delighted to present to you the brand new trailer for FRITZ BAUER'S LEGACY by Sabine Lamby, Cornelia Partmann and Isabel Gathof and produced by naked eye Filmproduktion GmbH & Co. KG and Feinshmeker Film. The film reveals the fascinating history of why for decades Germany’s justice system had difficulty dealing with its countless unpunished Nazi crimes and follows one of the probably last cases brought to court. The film premiered at LICHTER Festival in May and will be released in German cinemas by Real Fiction in December.

Thrilled to be able to announce the world premiere of SHE CHEF (OV: WANDERJAHRE) by Gereon Wetzel and Melanie Liebheit at DOK Leipzig in the German Competition! The film follows young chef Agnes who recently finished her apprenticeship from luxury kitchen to luxury kitchen. She is making her way in the male dominated field and facing the pressure working in high end kitchens brings, from Bergisch Gladbach (Germany) via Barcelona to the Faroe Islands. Produced by Florian Brüning and Thomas Herberth (Horse&Fruits Filmproduktion).
In Leipzig, the films is nominated for VER.DI Prize for Solidarity, Humanity and Fairness, Young Eyes Film Award, DEFA Sponsoring Prize.

NEW @ MAGNETFILM: TOUCHING FREEDOM

New in the MAGNETFILM line-up: TOUCHING FREEDOM follows two students who pick up video cameras for the first time in their lives to document the Kurdish resistance against ISIS in Kobani in 2014. From inside the war, they film what no one else has filmed.
Director Manal Masri has over 17 years of experience as producer and director in theatre, film and radio drama. Manal is Head of the Swedish radio drama department in Malmö, has worked at director of Teater Foratt, Malmö. Her critically acclaimed feature documentary film "Letters to a Serial Killer" was nominated for a Guldbagge, the Swedish national cinema award, for best documentary.
TOUCHING FREEDOM is her 2nd feature length documentary film and was produced by Ove Rishøj Jensen for Swedish production outfit Auto Images and premiered in the Competition of the Tempo Documentary Film Festival in Sweden. A theatrical release in Sweden will follow in November 2022 vat DocLounge.

DEAR FUTURE CHILDREN wins German Film Award

Congratulations to Franz Böhm & team for winning the German Documentary Film Award & Audience Award!
The German Documentary Film Award is one of the most prestigious awards for filmmakers in the German documentary industry. Half of the main prize, worth €20,000, is donated by Südwestrundfunk (SWR) and the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg (MFG). The main jury, chaired by film and television producer Prof. Regina Ziegler, decided in 2022 to split the prize and prize money between DEAR FUTURE CHILDREN and MR. BACHMANN AND HIS CLASS.

The jury statement: "The great film 'Dear Future Children' gives faces and voices to a generation. The young filmmaker Franz Böhm and his cinematographer Friedemann Leis capture all their anger, energy and resourcefulness in such an impressive way that they allow us to witness all the desires, hopes and fears of these special young people.”
DEAR FUTURE CHILDREN also won the Audience Award worth 3.000 EUR by the audience jury of the SWR Landesschau.

DESCENDING THE MOUNTAIN @ SILBERSALZ

Thrilled to announce DESCENDING THE MOUNTAIN by Maartje Nevejan has been nominated for the Homeland Earth Award at the upcoming Silbersalz Festival.
The festival starts June 15 and the film will be shown June 16, 6pm at Zazie Kino in Halle (Sale).

The screening will be followed by a film talk discussing medicine in a different way. Can a drug like psilocybin be used to treat depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or Alzheimer's disease? Director Lea Najjar's debut feature documentary portrays her hometown Beirut when Lebanon is in crisis. It's inhabitants are frustrated by corruption and the failure of the state and corrupt elite, the city erupts in protests and one of the biggest explosions of the 21st century. The film won the CPH:DOX NEXT:WAVE Award in March.

We're delighted to be able to announce the world premiere of Marc Wiese's THIS STOLEN COUNTRY OF MINE at CPH:DOX in the F:ACT AWARD Competition. Marc won the same competition with WE HOLD THE LINE in 2020. In his new documentary, Chinese mining in Ecuador’s mountains sets the stage for an epic battle between eco-guerrillas and a corrupt government in an intensely dramatic feature about the country's ruthless economic exploitation.

Latvian animator Nils Skapāns passed away

With great sadness we just learned today, that Latvian animator and film director Nils Skapāns (born 1969) has passed away in September 2021.
We are distributing several of his short films which he created with studio Lokomotīve: OUR GRANNY ROCKS, MARTIAN, GHOST HOUR, and CAT IN THE BAG.
Nils was the creator of over 40 films, especially known for his plasticine animation, and has several national and international awards to his name.
He will be greatly missed in the world wide animation community!

URSA @ CLERMONT-FERRAND

Congratulations to Natalia Malykhina for the selection of URSA - SONG OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS to the young audiences programme at the 2022 Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival! The film will compete for CANAL+ Family channel award, so fingers crossed.

The wonderful children's film about a lonely polar bear pup in the Arctic had a very sucessful festival run so far and was awarded "Best Norwegian Short Film" at Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival (2021), "Best Short Film for Children" at Goldn Kurier - IAFF in Bulgaria (2021), "Best Children's Film" at TIAF-Tbilisi International Animation Festival in Georgia (2021) and "Best Animation for Children - Bronze" at the Los Angeles Animation Festival LAAF (2021).

COME BACK ANYTIME @ DOC NYC

Our Japanese ramen documentary COME BACK ANYTIME is currently making the rounds at several US festivals and it has just been announced that it will be in the International Competition of the biggest documentary film festival in the US: DOC NYC!
Big congratulations to director John Daschbach and producer Wataru Yamamoto , who will holding a Q&A as well.

KIDS CUP @ IDFA 2021

We're delighted to announce that our latest acquisition KIDS CUP has been selected to IDFA's Competiton for Youth Documentary - big congratulations to director Line Hatland and producers Ingvil Giske and Mari Monrad Vistven from Norwegian production outfit Medieoperatørene as and the whole film team!

KIDS CUP is a feel-good family film about the world's largest sports tournament for kids, Norway Cup, in Oslo. The director's debut feature length documentary premiered at Kristiansand International Children's Film Festival this year and won the "ECFA Award for Best European Documentary Film for Young Audience" at Zlín Film Festival (Czech Republic 2021).

IDFA takes place between November 17-28, 2021 in Amsterdam - more updates on the screening dates and times soon!

BLESS YOU! wins DOC ALLIANCE AWARD

The first ever Doc Alliance Award – Best Short Film went to BLESS YOU! (Zdrastvuyte!), directed by Tatiana Chistova and nominated by Millennium Docs Against Gravity. (...) The jury stated that Bless You! “captures the feeling of anxiety, isolation, boredom and confusion in the pandemic and finds a very simple, but powerful and honest way to do it.”
