MAGNETFILM DOCS @ FESTIVALS December 2020
Happy to announce the brand-new MAGNETFILM title NUCLEAR FOREVER by Carsten Rau which celebrated the world premiere as part of the German competition of DOK Leipzig.
Germany is turning away from nuclear power once and for all in 2022. Because the risk is too high, the technology unmanageable. Yet the nuclear nightmare goes on. With unique access, Rau takes an equally profound and alarming look at the hazardous process of the dismantling of power plants which will take decades and gobble up many billions of euros, with thousands of tonnes of radioactive waste whose storage isn’t the least bit clear.
Rau also looks into the French atomic industry that ridicules the German opt-out as “ludicrous” and wants even more power plants. In the process, what particularly sets this film apart is that it does not take sides in this debate which has been conducted for decades on a bitterly ideological plane. NUCLEAR FOREVER doesn’t leave any arguments out, even though they may be unpopular. In the end, the viewer can and must form their own impression of the mania called nuclear power. That has no end.
A very warm welcome to a new addition to the MAGNETFILM line-up: BREAKING BARRIERS - THE CASTELESS COLLECTIVE by Maja Meiners premiered at Sheffield Doc/Fest and portrays the 15 members strong The Casteless Collective band from Chennai in South India.
They play their protest music as an eclectic mix of folk music and Gaana art coming from North Chennai’s slum area, combined with modern musical styles of rap and rock.
Their lyrics covers all the social issues in Indian society that affect the band themselves: caste discrimination, the ‘untouchables’, and the oppression of women, LGBTQI+ people and those from underprivileged and marginalized backgrounds. The film shows the young band’s powerful attempt to break cultural stigmas, and joins their journey towards an Indian future of casteless mentality and reality.

Goodbye Rabbi Wolff
We are very sorry to hear about the passing of the great Rabbi Wolff this morning.
He was a very special person who touched the lives of many deeply.
It's fortunate that Britta Wauer was able to portray him in her wonderful documentary and capture his life and legacy for future generations and we feel privileged to have been working with the film. Our deepest condolences to all family and friends and all Jewish communities he worked with. He will be missed very much.
We're delighted to be able to announce that WOOD will celebrate the North American premiere at HOT DOCS in the World Showcase section of the festival - big congratulations to directors Monica Lazurean-Gorgan, Michaela Kirst, Ebba Sinzinger and the whole team!
Produced by WILDArt (A), Filmtank (D) and 4Proof Film (RO), WOOD had it's world premiere at CPH:DOX in March.
Unfortunately HOT DOCS as many festivals currently has been postboned due to COVID-19.
No new dates have been announced yet, but registered industry delegates can watch in The Doc Shop beginning April 30.
Meanwhile enjoy this interview that Austrian Films did with the three directors and the trailer to the film here.

WE HOLD THE LINE wins @ CPH:DOX
WE HOLD THE LINE won the F:act Award competition at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen!
Congratulations to director Marc Wiese, producer Oliver Stoltz and the whole team and a great big thank you to the festival and the jury!
The festival had to move the whole program online. You can watch the wonderful Awards Show they put together here: vimeo.com/401401625
The F:act Award jury consisted of Israeli filmmaker Shosh Shlam, the Finnish film critic Marta Balaga and Danish director and journalist Nils Giversen.
The competition is dedicated to films in the field between documentary filmmaking, investigative journalism and activism and is presented in collaboration with the Danish Union of Journalists. The award is a cash prize of 5,000 euros.
The jury statement:
“The CPH:DOX F:act Award goes to the film depicting dark, troubling events in a skillful yet measured way, smartly focusing on just the right situations while employing a precise cinematic language. One that for all the portrayed hardships still manages to transform into a story about the unbreakable human spirit, providing the kind of narrative, and everyday heroes hell-bent on unearthing the truth, that we all desperately need right now. Making the voices of those fighting for the freedom of speech sound loud and clear, giving us hope for the future.”
The film will be available for Danish audiences to view at cphdox.dk/online until April 30.
